Section 504 covers qualified students with disabilities who attend schools receiving Federal Financial assistance.
English as a Second Language is an intensive instructional program designed to develop proficiency in the listening, speaking, reading, and writing of the English Language. Student eligibility for the program is determined through the administration of an English language proficiency test, and parent permission is required for entrance into the program. All instruction is provided in English and utilizes the TEKS and the ELPS for the cultivation of English language skills and the promotion of academic success in all grade level content areas.
The ESL program for PreK through twelfth grade values the inclusion of Emergent Bilinguals in general education classes with their native English-speaking peers. HISD’s departmentalized elementary and secondary campuses provides instruction from ESL certified Reading Language Arts Teachers. The ESL program encourages sheltered instruction in the core content areas of math, science, and US History. Students may be enrolled in an ESL class or or in addition to an English class depending on the student’s individual language level.
“Gifted and talented student” means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possesses an unusual capacity for leadership, or excels in a specific academic field (TEC Subchapter D §29.121).
The primary goal of the Hudson ISD Gifted and Talented Program is to provide a challenging educational environment for our gifted students that will allow them to develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally to meet their unique potential.
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a proactive school framework that identifies struggling students early and provides support to address their individual needs. The framework can help teachers to design and implement a curriculum that reachers every learner in their classroom.
